Armed Hijackers Seize Chemical Tanker Off Yemen Coast in Red Sea
Armed assailants took control of the chemical tanker Asana while it was sailing in the Gulf of Aden near southern Yemen on Friday, according to maritime security sources cited by Reuters. The attackers reportedly boarded the vessel and seized it. Tracking data indicates the tanker, which does not display a verified registered flag, was en route to the port of Bosaso in Somalia. Concurrently, the UK Maritime Trade Operations (UKMTO) reported that an unauthorized group attacked a ship sailing eastward in the Gulf of Aden, approximately 65 nautical miles south of the Yemeni port of Al Mukalla. At this time, the identity of the hijackers remains unknown, and no information has been released regarding the condition of the crew members.
