Democratic Candidate Advocates Eviction of New West Bank Settlement Ahead of Israeli Elections
Yaia Pink, a candidate from the Democratic Party, visited the West Bank on Thursday to promote the evacuation of a newly established settlement called Eival, which was founded earlier that day. Pink posted an eviction notice on the settlement with the date October 28, the day after the upcoming Israeli elections, signaling the left-wing's intention to remove settlements immediately after the vote.
Finance Minister Bezalel Smotrich condemned Pink's actions, sharing footage of the eviction notice and stating, "They mean what they say." This incident comes amid a series of recent disclosures showing senior left-wing figures openly discussing plans to dismantle settlements and advance the creation of a Palestinian state.
The previous evening, a report revealed that associates of former Prime Minister Naftali Bennett and former Chief of Staff Gadi Eizenkot, along with left-wing research organizations, have been engaging with European governments, including officials in the UK and France. These politicians have been assuring European interlocutors that after the elections, they intend to reverse current government policies in the West Bank, restore legitimacy to the Palestinian Authority, halt new settlement construction, and evacuate existing outposts.
According to these discussions, Bennett and Eizenkot are prepared to pay the political price of undoing three years of settlement expansion to enhance their reputations. The provocative eviction notice by Pink exemplifies the left-wing bloc's commitment to these plans, which have sparked strong reactions from right-wing Israeli leaders.
