Indian Environmental Activist Sonam Wangchuk Loses 9kg After 19 Days of Hunger Strike
Indian environmental activist Sonam Wangchuk has been on a hunger strike for 19 days, consuming only water and salt, resulting in a weight loss of over 9 kilograms. Medical professionals have issued warnings that his condition is approaching a critical stage, with increased risk of damage to vital organs if the strike continues. Wangchuk initiated the hunger strike to protest alleged irregularities in the National Eligibility cum Entrance Test (NEET) for medical school admissions and to demand the resignation of the Indian Minister of Education. He stated that the protest aims to highlight the erosion of public trust in the examination system and the need for government accountability. Currently, Wangchuk remains under continuous medical supervision as concerns grow over his sharp weight loss and the prolonged duration of his hunger strike.
