Yehuda Eliyahu Appointed Interim CEO of Israel Land Authority Following Supreme Court Ruling

Following the Supreme Court's decision on Wednesday to annul his previous appointment, Yehuda Eliyahu has been named interim CEO of the Israel Land Authority (ILA). Housing and Construction Minister Chaim Katz signed Eliyahu's appointment letter after consulting with the Civil Service Commissioner. Eliyahu will serve in this interim capacity for three months or until a permanent appointment is made, whichever comes first.

The Supreme Court had canceled Eliyahu's initial appointment as head of the ILA, prompting a review of the selection process. Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu, along with Ministers Bezalel Smotrich and Chaim Katz, informed the court that they accepted the judges' recommendation to revoke Eliyahu's appointment and return the matter to the selection committee for reconsideration.

The judges proposed that the selection committee, which originally recommended Eliyahu, reconvene with two of its five members replaced due to potential conflicts of interest. The members to be replaced are Meirav Prozner, head of the Budget Department at the Ministry of Finance, and Professor Idith Sulberg. The committee will reassess the appointment to ensure transparency and impartiality.

This interim appointment allows the ILA to continue functioning while the selection process is revisited. The case highlights the judiciary's role in overseeing public appointments and ensuring proper procedures are followed.
