Netanyahu Plans Major Refresh of Likud List Ahead of Primaries

Ahead of the Likud primaries scheduled in about a month, Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu is preparing to revamp the party's candidate list by incorporating new figures from the recent war and the business sector. Political analyst and communications advisor Eliran Tal, speaking on Channel 14, explained that Netanyahu has secured the reserved slots he requested and asserted his authority over the list composition, stating, "I am the chairman of Likud, I decide the list as much as possible."

Tal noted that Netanyahu aims to present a high-quality list with fresh names at the top to attract more voters and strengthen the party's appeal. Contrary to widespread media reports, many rumored reserved candidates are not actually being considered, with some names never even discussed by Netanyahu or his close associates.

The Prime Minister is reportedly considering several individuals linked to the October 7 attacks and the ongoing war, including wounded heroes and those who have made significant social contributions during the conflict. Netanyahu is familiar with many of these figures and may include one or two on the list. Additionally, candidates from the business and economic sectors are under consideration, with at least one expected to receive a reserved spot.

One notable name mentioned is Gal Hirsch, the former coordinator for prisoners and missing persons, who could potentially secure a reserved slot. Tal emphasized that Netanyahu is keeping his plans confidential, but the full list of reserved candidates is expected to be revealed within the next week or two as the primaries approach.
