Danell CEO Says AI Will Aid Nursing Care but Cannot Replace Human Workers
Oren Levy, CEO of Danell, spoke at the Calcalist National Economic Conference about the role of robots and artificial intelligence (AI) in nursing care. He emphasized that while AI can improve efficiency in nursing services, it cannot replace the essential human connection required, especially in elderly care. Levy highlighted the importance of personal interaction, noting that loneliness is a major issue among the elderly that technology alone cannot solve.
Levy criticized the 2018 amendment to the Long-Term Care Insurance Law, which allowed some services to be converted into cash payments. He explained that many elderly people chose the money over services, which did not always benefit their care. He called for a coordinated government effort to address the broader needs of the aging population, including social support beyond healthcare.
Addressing the labor shortage in Israel’s workforce, Levy shared that the country needs about 18,000 workers, equivalent to the population of Shoham city. He described the challenges of integrating foreign workers, including housing, healthcare, and transportation. Levy argued that each sector should focus on its strengths: developers on vision, contractors on construction, and manpower companies on staffing.
Levy also noted changing workforce expectations, with younger generations seeking work-life balance, which requires adapting the labor market. Regarding Danell’s growth, he attributed it to consistent organic growth and acquisitions, supported by strong financial health and investor confidence.
Finally, Levy viewed the new nursing care tender as a significant opportunity for efficiency and improvement in the sector, with promising innovations already underway.
