FIFA Introduces Unique Match Balls for 2026 World Cup Semifinals and Final

For the first time in World Cup history, FIFA has introduced dedicated match balls specifically for the semifinals and final of the 2026 tournament in the United States. Each match ball will feature a unique design including a gold color accent, the scoreline between the competing teams, and the name of the host city where the game is played. The balls maintain the same physical dimensions and aerodynamic properties as the standard tournament balls, ensuring consistent play.

Adidas, the ball manufacturer, explained that the gold symbolizes the World Cup trophy against a black base, while pink and red elements complement the players' shoes. The inclusion of host city names aims to narrate the story of the teams that reached this stage, creating a "once-in-a-lifetime experience," according to the company.

Despite some goalkeepers historically complaining about the difficulty of catching the ball, FIFA has decided to keep the ball's design and technology unchanged. The ball is equipped with a chip that tracks its acceleration and position to assist the Video Assistant Referee (VAR) team during matches.

This innovation marks a new chapter in World Cup history, adding a commemorative and technological dimension to the tournament's most critical matches.
