Promising Argentine Tennis Player Dies in Car Crash Celebrating World Cup Win
Luisana Schneeberger, a promising 16-year-old Argentine tennis player, tragically died in a car accident following celebrations of Argentina's victory over Switzerland in the World Cup quarterfinals. The crash occurred in Eldorado, Misiones province, when the Volkswagen Golf she was in, driven by 20-year-old Renzo Retmoso, lost control at high speed. The vehicle first collided with a Toyota Corolla and then hit a tree. Schneeberger and the driver died at the scene, while three other passengers aged 16, 17, and 20 were injured, one seriously. A flag of Argentina was reportedly displayed on the car's rear window, symbolizing the team's advancement to the semifinals.
Schneeberger had trained since childhood at the Eldorado tennis club, which mourned her loss deeply, calling her "our adopted daughter" and highlighting her great talent and potential. The Argentine Tennis Association also issued a statement expressing profound sorrow over her death. Her school and the local tennis community shared heartfelt tributes on social media. Schneeberger was regarded as one of Argentina's most promising young tennis talents. Her funeral has already taken place, while police continue investigating the accident's circumstances.
