Apple and LEGO Explore Official Bondi Blue iMac G3 Building Set

LEGO is considering producing an official building set of the iconic iMac G3 computer, originally launched by Apple in 1998. This follows a fan-made detailed model gaining over 10,000 supporters on LEGO's website, prompting the toy giant to enter advanced discussions with Apple for intellectual property rights approval. The proposed LEGO set aims to replicate the iMac G3's distinctive "Bondi Blue" translucent design, including the signature round mouse, matching keyboard, and an internal circuit board model.

The project has reached a "Parking Lot" status within LEGO, indicating strong commercial potential and serious consideration for market release. However, producing the set requires close collaboration between LEGO and Apple, as previous attempts to create Apple-themed LEGO sets, such as an Apple Store model, were rejected outright. The nostalgia factor and success of similar LEGO sets based on vintage technology products, like classic gaming consoles and typewriters, increase the likelihood of approval.

If finalized, the LEGO iMac G3 set is expected to become highly sought after by collectors and technology enthusiasts. The original iMac G3 marked Steve Jobs' return to Apple and the company's resurgence in the late 1990s. LEGO plans to announce its final decision in the coming months after completing economic feasibility studies and securing legal permissions from Apple.
