Tom Cruise Stars in Alejandro González Iñárritu's First English Film in a Decade

Warner Bros. and Legendary Pictures released the first trailer for "Digger," the new film by Oscar-winning director Alejandro González Iñárritu, starring Tom Cruise. Scheduled for an October theatrical release, the movie was shot over six months in the UK and marks Iñárritu's return to English-language filmmaking after about ten years.

The plot centers on Digger Rockwell, a billionaire with global influence whose company is involved in causing a major ecological disaster. Rockwell embarks on a critical mission to prove he is "humanity's savior" before the crisis escalates into nuclear conflict. For the role, Cruise underwent a significant physical transformation using prosthetic makeup to alter his facial and body appearance.

The cast also includes John Goodman, Riz Ahmed, Sandra Hüller, Jesse Plemons, Michael Stuhlbarg, Sophie Wilde, and Emma D'Arcy. The cinematography was led by Oscar winner Emmanuel Lubezki, known for his work on "Gravity," "Birdman," and "The Revenant." The screenplay was co-written by Iñárritu alongside Nicolás Giacobone, Alexander Dinelaris, and Sabina Berman.

"Digger" represents Cruise's first collaboration with Warner Bros. since the 2014 film "Edge of Tomorrow." This project highlights a notable reunion between the star and the studio, as well as Iñárritu's return to English-language cinema.
