Brazilian Couple Sets Guinness Record with 195 Kisses in 30 Seconds

Brazilian couple Renato Baima Gaia and Naiara Roberta Ribeiro de Marins set a new Guinness World Record by sharing 195 kisses in just 30 seconds. The 32- and 33-year-olds, both doctors who met during the COVID-19 pandemic, aimed to prove they are "the best couple in the world" through this rapid display of affection. In a video documenting the attempt, Renato, wearing his favorite football team Sao Jose's shirt, quickly kissed Naiara's cheek an average of six and a half times per second.

Renato is an experienced record breaker with previous achievements including the fastest time to arrange and topple ten books in 6.68 seconds and the largest foot twist angle of 210.66 degrees. This latest record could make him the Brazilian with the most world records. He also wanted to include Naiara's name alongside his in the Guinness Book of Records. Naiara, by contrast, is new to record attempts.

The record was set near International Kissing Day but sparked mixed reactions online, with some questioning the significance of rapid cheek kisses as a record-worthy feat. Undeterred, the couple plans to attempt the record for most kisses in one minute, currently held by Japanese couple Cherry Yoshitaka and Komiko Shiratori with 277 kisses. To beat that, the Brazilians will need to sustain a slightly slower pace for twice as long. Renato’s self-described addiction to winning suggests they will continue pursuing new records together.
