Brazilian Lecturer Uses Hidden Camera to Expose Student Suspected of Mercury Poisoning

A Brazilian lecturer, Dany Cardoso, suspected she was being poisoned after experiencing severe symptoms such as abdominal pain, muscle aches, and general weakness for months without a clear cause. After feeling a small object in her throat following a drink of water, she found small pellets in her water bottle and reported the incident to the police. To uncover the truth, Cardoso set up a hidden camera in her classroom, which recorded a student, Maria Aparecida Rodrigues de Araujo, pouring a suspicious substance into her water bottle.

Maria Araujo, involved in a medical arts project at Oswaldo Cruz University Hospital in Recife, Brazil, had been participating in the program for about three years. Forensic analysis of the water bottle revealed traces of mercury, and toxicology tests showed elevated mercury levels in Cardoso's blood, suggesting exposure over eight months to a year. Araujo denied poisoning the lecturer, but police found suspicious materials in her possession. Investigators are still determining the motive, as Cardoso reported no significant conflicts but sensed unexplained hostility from the student.

Authorities are awaiting medical opinions to confirm whether Cardoso's symptoms are directly linked to mercury exposure. The investigation is ongoing at the Boa Vista police station.
