IDF Warns Israeli Government of Imminent Reserve Forces Collapse Amid Ongoing Conflict

The Israel Defense Forces (IDF) has issued a stark warning to the Israeli government about the imminent collapse of its reserve forces amid ongoing military operations. Chief of Staff Lieutenant General Eyal Zamir has ordered a reduction of active forces in the West Bank to alleviate the burden on reservists. To ease the strain, regular army battalions from Gaza and Lebanon will be deployed to replace reservists currently operating in the West Bank.

Currently, 26 battalions are engaged in operational duties in the West Bank, with the possibility of further reinforcements needed ahead of the Jewish High Holidays (Tishrei). The IDF has emphasized that even the regular forces are reaching their limits and has requested an extension of regular service by at least two months to address personnel shortages.

The military's warning was communicated to both the political echelon and coalition members, stressing that "it will no longer be possible to say 'we did not know'" regarding the reserve system's critical state. The high volatility in the West Bank region underlines the urgency of these measures.

Meanwhile, coalition members have called for the establishment of a committee to determine eligibility for service exemptions, a move seen as an attempt to shift responsibility away from lawmakers amid a moral and ethical debate over the military burden. The IDF's warnings highlight the severe manpower challenges facing Israel's defense forces during this period of heightened security tension.
