Maccabi Tel Aviv's Yam Madar to Face Hapoel Tel Aviv in September Supercup Clash
The Israeli Basketball Premier League announced that the Social Supercup will take place for the second time, featuring a matchup between the two Tel Aviv teams, Maccabi Tel Aviv and Hapoel Tel Aviv. The game is scheduled for September 17 at Menora Mivtachim Arena, recreating last season's playoff final. Yam Madar, now with Maccabi Tel Aviv, will face his former team Hapoel Tel Aviv in this highly anticipated derby.
Both teams will skip the group stage of the Winner Cup and enter the competition at the quarterfinals, which will occur after the Supercup game. Last year’s inaugural Social Supercup saw Hapoel Jerusalem defeat Maccabi Tel Aviv. This year’s event is positioned as the official season opener for Israeli basketball’s 2026/27 season.
Ari Steinberg, chairman of the league management, emphasized the significance of the event, highlighting the rivalry and the story behind Madar’s return to face his former club. He also thanked the Histadrut and the Social Supercup partners for their support. Dudu Bezalel, CEO of the Histadrut, noted the derby promises an exciting sporting experience and stressed the importance of making the event accessible to all fans and families, underscoring sport’s social unifying role.
Tickets went on sale on the "Laan" website, starting at 49 shekels.
