Two 15-Ton Concrete Slabs Fall From Truck Causing Multi-Car Crash on Busy Highway

On Friday morning around 10:30, a semi-trailer truck transporting heavy concrete slabs lost two massive 15-ton slabs on a busy north-south highway near Bolivar. The slabs detached from the truck after vehicles merged in front of it, causing a chain reaction of destruction. The concrete slabs struck three parked cars on the roadside, which were then pushed toward two pedestrians standing nearby next to a broken-down vehicle. The incident resulted in one person being hospitalized with a suspected broken arm and two others sustaining minor injuries.

The truck was operated by a private contractor for the large-scale "Torrens to Darlington" infrastructure project, delivering concrete segments for construction. Following this serious safety failure, the Department of Infrastructure and Transport announced an immediate suspension of all concrete segment deliveries for the project until further notice. Police emphasized the incident as a critical reminder for drivers to allow heavy vehicles sufficient braking space and for transporters to ensure cargo is properly secured before travel.
