Israel to Select Eurovision 2027 Representative via 'The Next Star' Reality Show

Israel's public broadcaster Kan announced that the country's representative for Eurovision 2027 will once again be chosen through the reality TV competition "The Next Star." This decision continues the collaboration between Kan and the show, which has proven cost-effective and allows the broadcaster to allocate more resources to original Israeli content while maintaining high production quality for Israel's Eurovision performance.

Kan representatives will participate in selecting the winner during the semifinals and finals of the show. The song selection process will follow last year's method, where submitted recordings for Kan's selection committee will exclude the voices of the songwriters or any identifiable individuals to ensure anonymity. Songwriters are permitted to use AI technology for vocal recordings to maintain this anonymity.

The selection committee will initially review up to 40 songs, which will then be evaluated by a final panel including professionals from Kan and a representative from Keshet. Yoav Zephir, the chief editor of "The Next Star for Eurovision," expressed pride in continuing the show's role as the platform for Israel's Eurovision representatives, highlighting the discovery of exceptional talent and the professional, collaborative process that helps select Israel's artist for the global stage. He added, "We are already looking forward to meeting the next generation of stars."
