Iran Threatens Israel With Retaliation Amid Rising Regional Tensions

Iran's Secretary of the Supreme National Security Council, Mohammad Baqer Doalqdor, warned on Friday that Tehran will respond to any attacks on its infrastructure with equivalent retaliation, explicitly stating that Israel will not be immune from such responses. This threat comes amid a new wave of escalations following extensive strikes on Iranian territory and Iran's retaliatory attacks on American and allied targets in the Gulf region.

Behind the scenes, diplomatic efforts are underway to prevent further deterioration. According to sources speaking to The New York Times, Qatar has been mediating talks with both Washington and Tehran to de-escalate the crisis and avoid another round of attacks. These diplomatic moves occur as tensions between the U.S. and Iran approach a critical point, raising fears that recent exchanges of strikes could trigger a broader regional conflict.

The escalation intensified overnight when Iran's official news agency, IRNA, reported that a U.S.-Israeli missile struck a military base near Bushehr, hours after renewed hostilities between the U.S. and Iran. IRNA cited Bushehr's deputy governor, Ahsan Jahaniyan, who confirmed the attack and noted that explosions heard in Bushehr were caused by air defense systems responding to the missile strike. Jahaniyan attributed the attack to American and Israeli forces. Additionally, IRNA quoted a local source confirming an attack on an Iranian maritime site in Konarak.

However, a U.S. military official told Al Arabiya that the U.S. military is not conducting any strikes against Iran. Iranian state television also denied reports of explosions in Bandar Abbas. Contrastingly, the Iranian news agency Mehr reported multiple explosions in southern Iran, including in Bushehr, home to a nuclear power plant, on Thursday.
