Mass Protests in Bolivia Over Economic Crisis, Heavy Security Deployed Around Central Bank

Bolivia has in recent weeks been in the midst of widespread protests, as tens of thousands of demonstrators take to the streets and disrupt the country’s activities amid rising social and economic tensions.

The backdrop to the protests is economic measures taken by the new president, including the cancellation of fuel subsidies and additional budget cuts, which have drawn broad public opposition and led to an escalation on the ground. In footage obtained by Yitzhak Carmeli, dozens of armed police officers are seen securing the Central Bank building, while gunfire can be heard in the background and the tension in the streets is clearly evident.
