Iran Denies Shooting Near Khamenei Funeral, Confirms Separate Incident Killing Two

Iranian news agency Fars, affiliated with the Revolutionary Guards, denied reports of a security incident near the Imam Reza shrine in Mashhad during the funeral of Supreme Leader Ali Khamenei. Fars called the reports "anti-revolutionary rumors" and stated that no unusual events were found near the shrine or along the funeral procession route. However, the agency confirmed that a shooting occurred in the Sarparazan neighborhood, about 15 kilometers from the funeral site, resulting in two deaths whose identities remain unknown.

Initial reports from Saberin News, also linked to the Revolutionary Guards, said two Basij members were killed after two armed men in military uniforms opened fire on them. One died at the scene and the other later in hospital. Saberin News described the incident as a "terrorist act," claiming the suspects fled and security forces launched a manhunt. The report also mentioned gunfire near the shrine.

The deputy governor of Khorasan province for security confirmed the shooting to the official IRNA news agency, acknowledging two fatalities but withholding details on the circumstances or identities. The investigation is ongoing.
