Veteran Broadcaster Avri Gilad Criticizes Widespread Thong Trend Among Young Women at Beaches
Avri Gilad, a veteran Israeli media personality, expressed concern on his 103FM radio show about the growing trend of women, including very young girls, wearing thongs at the beach. Gilad recounted a recent visit to the beach where he observed that what was once rare, women wearing thongs, has become common across all ages, including girls as young as 13 to 15. He described the thong as exposing the buttocks almost entirely, leaving only a small triangle covering the tailbone, and lamented that this exposure reduces private body parts to mere objects of fantasy and desire.
Gilad reflected on how the thong has transformed the buttocks from a private, intriguing body part into something openly visible and ordinary, calling it a loss for the younger generation. He expressed regret that more and more body parts are becoming exposed and losing their special, even sacred, status.
This is not the first recent controversy surrounding thongs in Israel. Linor Fahima, a celebrity from "The Amazing Race Israel," recently sparked debate by posting a video showing women in minimal beachwear behind her son, criticizing the normalization of thongs and warning against giving implicit approval to such trends. Fahima called the trend "degrading" and questioned whether it is acceptable for her daughter to wear a thong simply because it has become widespread.
Gilad’s comments highlight a cultural debate in Israel about modesty, youth, and changing social norms regarding dress and body exposure at public beaches.
