Israeli Prison Service Chief Says Security Prisoners Await Post-Terror Attack Policy Shift

Kobi Yakobi, the Commissioner of the Israel Prison Service, addressed the ongoing conflict with security prisoners, revealing that intelligence assessments indicate these inmates are anticipating a "day after" scenario. They expect a change in incarceration policies and a return to the conditions that existed before the terror attack on October 7. Yakobi explained that from the prisoners' perspective, once his term ends, they foresee an opportunity to restore previous prison privileges such as regular meals and access to a canteen, which they view as a victory.

Yakobi emphasized that the Prison Service will not allow this reversal. He highlighted the organization’s preparedness, noting the establishment of a command staff and hundreds of dedicated fighters operating under the current policy framework to manage thousands of dangerous terrorists and criminal inmates.
