Spain's Anssumane Fati Confident Ahead of World Cup Knockout Stages
Anssumane Fati, the 18-year-old winger for Spain and Barcelona, expressed strong confidence as Spain prepares for the World Cup knockout rounds. In an interview with the Spanish sports newspaper Mundo Deportivo, Fati said he feels ready to showcase his true abilities during the crucial stages of the tournament, particularly from the round of 16 onward. He emphasized his motivation and patience in recovering from injury to be fully prepared for this moment.
Fati acknowledged that he has yet to deliver his best performance in the tournament but stressed his high personal standards and desire to improve. He stated, "I am very demanding of myself. I never say 'this is enough.' Even at Barcelona, I have not yet reached my goal, so certainly not now. I know I can be better."
Addressing criticism, Fati said he views it positively and uses it as motivation. He noted that when he plays well, critics should remain silent. He also said he does not feel pressured by the high expectations but rather encouraged by the trust placed in him.
Fati praised Lionel Messi's outstanding World Cup form and expressed happiness for Messi, Neymar, and Cristiano Ronaldo, who have inspired his generation. However, he added, "If I reach the final, I want to beat him."
Regarding the potential signing of Julián Álvarez by Barcelona, Fati showed enthusiasm, calling Álvarez a top player who fits Barcelona's style. He said the club's door is open and that everyone would be very happy if the transfer happens, though he is unsure of the deal's status.
