The nominees for the 78th Emmy Awards were announced on Wednesday evening, ahead of the ceremony scheduled for September 14 in Los Angeles. Leading the nominations is the drama series The White Lotus with 25 nods, followed closely by the final season of The Bear, which leads the comedy category with 24 nominations, setting a record for the most nominations received by a comedy series in a single season.

Among notable individual nominees, legendary director Rob Reiner received a posthumous nomination for Outstanding Guest Actor in a Comedy Series for his role in The Bear, marking his first Emmy nod since 1978. Michael J. Fox earned a nomination for Guest Actor in a Comedy Series for his appearance in Shrinking, his first in a decade and 18th overall. Fox returned to acting after retiring in 2020 due to Parkinson's disease, portraying a patient with the illness in the series. Similarly, Sally Field was nominated for Lead Actress in a Limited Series or Movie for her role in Netflix's Extraordinary Attorney Woo, her 14th nomination and first in over 15 years.

The nominations were announced by Emmy winners Liza Colon-Zayas and Jeff Hiller. The ceremony will be hosted by veteran actress Mariska Hargitay, star of Law & Order: SVU, marking the first time in 15 years a woman has hosted the event.
