Mauricio Pochettino’s US Soccer Jersey Sparks Sales Boom Amid Coaching Future Uncertainty
Mauricio Pochettino, the Argentine coach of the United States men’s national soccer team, remains a popular figure in the US despite the team’s elimination from the 2026 World Cup. His future with the team is still undecided, but his recent comments suggest he may be open to extending his tenure by two to four years. Pochettino has the option to return to club management but appears inclined to continue with the US team, which has embraced him enthusiastically.
A notable sign of his popularity is the surge in sales of the US national team’s blue jersey, designed by Boss, which Pochettino wore at every match during the tournament. The jersey, priced at $500, quickly sold out after the US’s 4-1 victory over Paraguay on June 12, with restocks also selling out rapidly, especially in major metropolitan areas like New York, Los Angeles, Miami, and Dallas. Boss reported that the demand included both longtime customers and first-time buyers, with website traffic spiking during and after the games.
Boss became the official business apparel partner of the US Soccer Federation before the tournament. Although exact sales figures were not disclosed, the two production runs of the jersey generated hundreds of thousands of dollars in retail sales. This commercial success is seen as a positive indicator for the federation’s ability to fund Pochettino’s contract extension.
Financial backing for Pochettino’s appointment and salary largely comes from philanthropic contributions by billionaire Ken Griffin, founder and CEO of Citadel, who has donated millions to US soccer infrastructure projects. Other investors include Scott Goodwin, co-founder of Diametr Capital, and unnamed corporations. Pochettino hinted at this support during press conferences, emphasizing that US soccer is entering a new phase with billionaire involvement aimed at improving competitiveness and infrastructure.
Looking ahead, Pochettino is expected to continue leading the senior national team and may develop a unified playing model for all US teams, supported by local billionaire funding. His positive energy and the commercial momentum around his image suggest strong prospects for his continued role in US soccer’s growth.
