Gadi Eizenkot Calls Justice Minister Yariv Levin an Enemy of Israeli Democracy
Gadi Eizenkot, chairman of the Yisrael party, sharply criticized Justice Minister Yariv Levin over his recent comments about the appointment of the State Comptroller and the ongoing conflict surrounding Israel's judicial system. In a social media post, Eizenkot accused Levin of leading a governmental revolution that risks dismantling Israeli society, calling him "an enemy of Israeli democracy." He further implicated Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu, stating that Netanyahu and his government continue to undermine democratic foundations ahead of critical upcoming elections. Eizenkot warned that the Israeli public would stand firmly against any attempts to dismantle the state.
The controversy escalated after Levin declared that there cannot be repeated elections for the State Comptroller position and insisted that Attorney Regev Rabinovitch should simply assume the role, asserting that no one could prevent him from doing so. Levin's remarks sparked political reactions and intensified the ongoing dispute over the judiciary and government institutions in Israel.
