Pakistani Cargo Plane Disappears Over Arabian Sea Amid Iran Tensions
A Pakistani cargo plane operated by K2 Airways vanished over the Arabian Sea on Tuesday evening while flying from Sharjah in the United Arab Emirates to Karachi, Pakistan. The Boeing 737-400, carrying five crew members, lost contact approximately 155 nautical miles west of Karachi after reporting a navigation system malfunction and requesting assistance.
Pakistani aviation authorities noted that the crew reported the navigation issue at 21:18 PST, shortly before the plane made a sharp right turn and began descending rapidly at about 15,000 feet per minute. Contact was completely lost by 21:21, and the aircraft disappeared from radar screens. The plane had been in the UAE for five days undergoing technical repairs and was on a ferry flight back to Pakistan.
A search and rescue operation was launched by Pakistani agencies to locate the missing aircraft and its crew. Local media have reported that the plane likely crashed into the sea, but Pakistani officials have not yet confirmed this and continue to investigate the circumstances while conducting ongoing search efforts. The incident occurs amid heightened regional tensions involving Iran.
