US Reimposes Sanctions on Iranian Oil Following Strait of Hormuz Attacks
The United States has reinstated sanctions banning the sale of Iranian oil after multiple attacks on ships in the Strait of Hormuz on Tuesday. A senior US official described Iran's actions in the strategic waterway as "completely unacceptable" and warned that the US would respond accordingly. Earlier in the day, three tankers reported being hit by Iranian fire near the Strait of Hormuz. Among the vessels targeted was a Qatari-owned liquefied gas tanker, prompting Qatar to summon the Iranian ambassador for a formal reprimand. Iran officially acknowledged that its forces attacked at least one liquefied gas tanker while it was transiting the Strait of Hormuz.
