Shas Condemns Gadi Eizenkot for Criticizing Haredi Supporters as Non-Zionist
The Shas party sharply criticized former IDF Chief of Staff Gadi Eizenkot on Tuesday following a video released by his party, Yashar, which opposed forming a government with Haredi parties. The video, describing Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu's coalition options as an "avoidance government," claimed Netanyahu cannot form a government without non-Zionist parties, showing images of Netanyahu alongside Haredi Knesset members.
In response, Shas accused Eizenkot of crossing a red line by disparaging thousands of IDF soldiers, reservists, and bereaved families of Mizrahi descent, many of whom are traditional and Shas voters, labeling them "non-Zionist." Shas called this statement provocative, condescending, and detached from reality.
Furthermore, Shas condemned Eizenkot for refraining from criticizing Arab parties, who they said neither serve in the military nor identify as Zionist, accusing him of pandering to them. The party asserted that Eizenkot's stance is politically motivated, as he allegedly cannot form a government without the support of Arab parties.
