Israeli Woman Cancels Naples Trip After Hotel's Political Message on Gaza Conflict
An Israeli woman from central Israel planned to travel to Naples, Italy, this week with her husband, who was to attend a conference there. However, she decided to cancel her stay at the Decumani Hotel De Charme after receiving a message from the hotel expressing a political stance on the Gaza war. After booking and providing her personal details, including her Israeli citizenship, the hotel sent her a statement supporting the "No Room for Genocide" campaign, which opposes what it calls ethnic and social discrimination and supports Palestinians and refugees opposing oppression peacefully.
The hotel’s message stated it respects human rights and welcomes Palestinians, refugees, and those fighting for recognized rights worldwide. Although the hotel did not explicitly bar her from staying, the message made her feel unsafe and uncomfortable, leading her to cancel her reservation. She told N12 that the message diminished her enthusiasm for the trip and negatively affected her mood before traveling.
The "No Room for Genocide" campaign is linked to the BDS movement and pro-Palestinian organizations, urging tourism businesses to pressure Israel over the Gaza conflict. The Israeli woman also contacted Booking.com, through which she made the reservation, but has yet to receive a response regarding the incident.
