Tangos AI Raises $20 Million to Revolutionize Financial Crime Investigations with AI
Tangos AI, a company specializing in artificial intelligence platforms for investigating financial crime, has secured $20 million in a seed funding round led by Red Dot Capital Partners. Other participants included Leaders VC, Clarim, Venture Israel, Signal Fire, Clutch Capital, Selah Ventures, and a strategic investment from Bright Data. Founded in July 2025 by serial entrepreneur Eyal Azulai, who previously completed three exits including a sale to BNY, Tangos AI employs experts from the US Treasury's Office of Foreign Assets Control (OFAC), Israeli security and intelligence communities, and AI specialists with experience in large-scale autonomous systems.
Financial crime is estimated to generate over $1.5 trillion annually, overwhelming financial institutions with increasing alerts, regulatory demands, and a global shortage of skilled investigators. Many institutions must prioritize only a fraction of cases, leaving complex investigations incomplete. Tangos AI currently has about 20 employees in Israel and additional experts in Washington. CEO Eyal Azulai explained that existing tools mainly offer three options: stop, continue, or flag for review, all requiring significant human labor. Tangos AI aims to replace thousands of investigators by automating the deep analysis of ambiguous alerts to decide on transaction approvals or rejections.
Azulai highlighted a strategic shift driven by AI, noting a 15% annual increase in financial crime linked to AI advancements. He emphasized the need for new tools and technologies as organizations seek to integrate AI to reduce large compliance teams. Tangos AI plans to launch commercial operations with major US clients and become fully available within the next month. The platform supports investigations into money laundering, fraud, risk, compliance, and sanctions violations by mapping hidden ownership structures, networks of companies and accounts, and consolidating findings into documented case files with clear audit trails.
Red Dot Capital Partners co-founder Yaniv Stern added that while financial institutions have invested billions in risk detection infrastructure over the past decade, the investigative phase still demands substantial resources from compliance and risk management teams. Tangos AI’s technology aims to address this critical gap by enhancing investigative efficiency and accuracy.
