Following France's 1-0 victory over Paraguay in the World Cup match held in Philadelphia, a major controversy erupted due to racist remarks made by Paraguayan Senator Celeste Arrieta against French star Kylian Mbappe. After the tense game, Arrieta posted a series of harsh and racially charged comments targeting Mbappe, including calling him a "colonial Cameroonian pretending to be French" along with other offensive and violent expressions. These posts were not deleted nor accompanied by any apology, which intensified public outrage.

Arrieta later published additional posts containing further racist insults, escalating criticism against her. Mbappe responded strongly, calling Arrieta a "despicable woman unfit for her role" and stating she does not represent Paraguay, a country that showed passion and respect throughout the tournament. He added that her recklessness and overt racism have overshadowed the historic efforts of Paraguayan players, instead focusing global attention on her negative image.

Mbappe emphasized his refusal to allow individuals like Arrieta to spread hatred and racism worldwide.
