Uzbekistan Seeks to Deepen Ties with Israel Amid Economic Reforms and Innovation Drive

Uzbekistan, the most populous country in Central Asia with over 30 million residents, is actively seeking to strengthen its diplomatic, tourism, and commercial relations with Israel. This move follows significant economic reforms and the discovery of valuable natural resources, positioning Uzbekistan as an emerging player on the international investment map. The country is opening its doors to Israeli technology, agriculture, and innovation, inspired by Israel's global success in these fields.

In recent years, Uzbekistan has transitioned from decades of authoritarian rule following the Soviet Union's collapse to a more open stance under new leadership. This political shift has facilitated closer ties with Western countries, including Israel. Last month, the fifth International Investment Forum was held in Tashkent, highlighting Uzbekistan's eagerness to learn from Israeli expertise across sectors such as high-tech, water management, textiles, and pharmaceuticals.

A notable example of Israeli influence is seen at the GLOBALTEXTILE factory, which oversees the entire cotton production chain. Factory managers credited Israeli technology with transforming their irrigation methods and overall production efficiency, expressing a desire to expand collaboration further. Additionally, Uzbekistan has established a new "Hi-Tech Village" in Tashkent aimed at hosting international startups, with officials inviting Israeli companies to participate in upcoming global competitions and partnerships.

Jerusalem has long recognized the potential of Central Asian countries, and Uzbekistan is now emerging as a key regional player eager to deepen its ties with Israel in multiple domains, reflecting the ongoing impact of the Abraham Accords on regional cooperation.
