Israeli Forum Hosts First-Ever Retreat for Wives of Torah Scholars in Religious Zionism
The 'Toratam Omanutan' forum organized the first-ever retreat for wives of Torah scholars (avrekhim) within the Religious Zionist community, held at the Leonardo Hotel in Jerusalem. Naama Mushkovitz, the forum's co-CEO, described the event as a public recognition of these women's vital role, emphasizing the need to empower them as a source of strength for their families and society. She expressed hope that the retreat would inspire them for another year of Torah study.
Participants shared their feelings of empowerment and belonging. Tehilah, from the Atzmonah preparatory program, said the retreat gave her strength and a sense of being seen. Shir, a wife of a scholar from Har HaMor Yeshiva, highlighted the collective pride and support from women representing various yeshivas and backgrounds. Rivka, from Beit El Yeshiva, spoke about the meaningful connection to a larger spiritual world that supports the nation and its soldiers.
Yaeli and Matar, both from Ma'ale Eliyahu Yeshiva in Tel Aviv, described the retreat as a powerful experience that connected them to a significant and enduring mission despite daily challenges. Some attendees came with family; Moriah, from Har HaMor Yeshiva, attended with her three sisters and mother, Rachel Dvir, who is married to a rabbi and emphasized the family's commitment to Torah and military service, noting their six sons and sons-in-law serve in the reserves.
Ruth Bornstein, co-CEO of the forum, summarized the retreat as a unique two-day event aimed at fostering a sense of unity and pride among these women, likening their role to an elite unit serving the people of Israel. The forum intends to continue supporting these women who play a crucial role in the Religious Zionist world and the broader Israeli society.
