Finance Minister Smotrich Rebukes Ben Gvir and Criticizes Avi Maoz Over Political Disputes
Israeli Finance Minister Bezalel Smotrich responded on Monday to a question from the news outlet Srugim regarding National Security Minister Itamar Ben Gvir's rejection of a joint political alliance between their parties. Smotrich emphasized that he does not speak on behalf of the periphery, stating, "The public in the periphery is smart and knows who acts on their behalf."
In addition to addressing Ben Gvir, Smotrich also criticized Religious Zionist Party member Avi Maoz. He accused Maoz of wasting time with speeches and not contributing effectively, saying, "While Avi Maoz is speaking and wasting time on the podium, we are strengthening Jewish identity. I don't understand why he is so opposed to the coalition. He is like some kind of troll."
These comments highlight ongoing tensions within the right-wing political factions in Israel, particularly regarding cooperation and coalition dynamics. Smotrich's remarks suggest a firm stance on his political approach and a dismissal of internal criticism from coalition partners. The situation underscores the challenges in maintaining unity among ideologically aligned but personally divided leaders.
