Israeli Bar Association Chair Warns Defying Supreme Court Ruling Leads to Anarchy

Amit Bechar, chairman of the Israeli Bar Association, sharply criticized the government's decision to ignore a Supreme Court ruling regarding the Second Authority for Television and Radio. In an interview with ynet, Bechar emphasized that while courts, including the Supreme Court, can err in their decisions, disregarding their rulings undermines the rule of law. He stated, "If you take it to the point where a court's mistake means its decision need not be followed, that is anarchy, a complete breakdown of the state." Bechar condemned attempts to justify non-compliance as mere excuses or demagoguery aimed at destroying Israel's democratic foundations.
