British Woman Arrested in Thailand for Suspected Murder of Boyfriend in Luxury Villa
Isabel Violet Carras, a 21-year-old British woman, was arrested in Pattaya, Thailand, on suspicion of murdering her British boyfriend, Thomas David Powell, a 34-year-old cannabis farm operator. Powell was found dead on Thursday morning in the bathroom of their luxury villa in Chon Buri, with multiple stab wounds to his back, body, and left hand. A concerned friend discovered the body after failing to reach Powell by phone.
Police found signs of a violent struggle throughout the villa, including blood-stained furniture, blood-soaked towels, scattered objects, and a large 50-centimeter knife washed in the sink. Authorities believe Powell’s body was moved before being found. Carras, found crying near the body, denied killing him and claimed he had self-inflicted the wounds, citing his heavy cannabis use and large doses of Valium. Investigators rejected this explanation due to the wound locations and crime scene evidence.
The local police chief classified the case as a murder investigation, dismissing claims of suicide or self-defense, especially given the stab wound to Powell’s back. The police are awaiting autopsy results, DNA tests, and further forensic evidence. Neighbors reported the couple had moved into the villa about two weeks prior and were known to use cannabis. Authorities are examining whether drug or medication use played a role but emphasize the investigation is ongoing. Carras remains in custody and continues to deny the allegations.
