Liverpool Fans and Experts Name Steven Gerrard Greatest Player in Club History

Liverpool Football Club, one of the world's most storied teams with a 134-year history, has officially ranked its 100 greatest players in a special project. The final decision, announced on July 5, 2026, was made by a combination of fans, former players, journalists, and a special Liverpool panel. Notably, no Israeli players were included in the ranking despite several having played for the club, such as Yossi Benayoun, Ronny Rosenthal, and the late Avi Cohen.

Steven Gerrard was named the greatest Liverpool player of all time, despite never winning a league title with the club. Gerrard's legacy includes 710 appearances, 186 goals, captaincy, and leading Liverpool to three League Cups, two FA Cups, one UEFA Cup, and one UEFA Champions League trophy. Kenny Dalglish ranked second, celebrated for six English league titles and three European Cups as a player, as well as his later role as manager. Ian Rush, Dalglish's teammate, took third place.

Mohamed Salah was honored as the fourth greatest, recognized for his pivotal role under manager Jürgen Klopp in ending Liverpool's league title drought and becoming one of the Premier League's top players. John Barnes completed the top five, with 108 goals in 407 appearances and two league titles and two FA Cups to his name. The full ranking was published by Sport 5.
