Israeli President Herzog Strongly Denounces Turkish Official's Anti-Israel Remarks

Israeli President Isaac Herzog sharply criticized a senior Turkish official who called Israel a "burden on the world," affirming that Israel will continue to stand firm. Herzog made these remarks during the national memorial ceremony for Theodor Herzl, Israel's founding father, where he also addressed the upcoming elections and the ongoing war since October 7. He stated, "Israel is here to stay. Israel is a blessing to the world," highlighting Israel's role in fighting terrorism and its contributions through innovations benefiting billions globally. Herzog referenced Herzl's words from 130 years ago about Israel spreading prosperity worldwide.

Turning to the approaching elections, Herzog urged restraint in public discourse, warning against escalating tensions. He posed a question about whether Israelis will remember their shared existence only during crises or also in peaceful times, emphasizing that elections are not a civil war and that future generations will live with the reality shaped today.

Regarding the prolonged war and security challenges, Herzog described Israel as being in one of its most critical historical periods. He noted that over a thousand days have passed since October 7, marking nearly three years of a multifront, extended campaign. He recalled Herzl's words about unity in times of distress, saying, "In our distress, we become one body and suddenly feel our strength because it is great." Herzog praised the resilience of soldiers, families, patients, and Jewish communities worldwide who have united despite differences to face the significant challenges together.
