Musician Yehal Doron Warns of National Collapse After Yearlong Bible Reading Project
Israeli musician Yehal Doron, known from the duo "Guy and Yehal," recently revealed a unique personal project on social media: reading the entire Bible from start to finish over nearly a year without intermediaries. The idea was inspired by fellow musician Idan Raichel during a conversation on the "In the Salon with Tzofit" show on the Mishav channel. Raichel questioned why Jewish children’s education avoids direct Bible reading despite its central role in Jewish identity.
Doron described the experience as intense and eye-opening, noting striking parallels between biblical events and contemporary Israeli society. He highlighted recurring themes such as division, corrupt leadership, and religious figures’ misconduct. He drew direct comparisons to current political negotiations, citing the biblical tribes of Gad and Reuben and referencing the verse, "Your brothers will come to battle while you sit here." The October 7 attacks reminded him of the biblical story of David’s pursuit of Amalekites who had kidnapped women and children.
A key insight Doron shared is that the Bible does not distinguish between religious or secular identities, but rather between the God-fearing and those who do evil. He expressed concern that modern groups have claimed exclusive ownership of Judaism, which he believes distorts its true message. Doron warned that blindly pursuing justice without openness to others risks leading Israel toward a third destruction and exile, as described in the tragic end of the Book of Kings during King Zedekiah’s reign. He concluded with hope that this time a different, more positive ending can be written.
