Indonesian Forces Rescue Body of US Pilot Killed by Papua Rebels
Indonesian security forces released footage of a rescue operation in Papua, where they recovered the body of American pilot Nicholas Goslin. Goslin, employed by airline PT AMA, was shot dead shortly after landing at the remote Ifdeik airstrip in Yahukimo district, Papua province, eastern Indonesia. Following the shooting, the attackers set fire to the aircraft and fled the scene. The military regained control of the airstrip before conducting the recovery mission. Seven passengers, including three women, aboard the plane were unharmed.
The armed wing of the West Papua Liberation Movement claimed responsibility for the attack, displaying the "Morning Star" flag, a symbol of Papuan independence, in a video. Their spokesperson accused the Indonesian government of using civilian flights to transport troops and military supplies, alleging the plane violated a rebel ban on civilian flights in their controlled areas. The Indonesian military denied these claims.
The rebels urged the Indonesian government to initiate international negotiations to resolve the Papua conflict and warned they would continue targeting civilian aircraft they say support military operations in the region.
