Minister Amichai Shikli Criticizes Yuli Edelstein for Populism and Lack of Transparency

Minister of Diaspora Affairs Amichai Shikli sharply criticized Knesset member Yuli Edelstein in an interview on Channel 14's "Israel Morning" program. Shikli accused Edelstein of being oppositional throughout the government's tenure and claimed he had effectively left the Likud party long ago. He dismissed Edelstein's recent announcement to leave Likud as unsurprising, stating, "He left a long time ago."

Shikli also condemned Edelstein's handling of the controversial military draft law, alleging that Edelstein withheld the draft bill from coalition members despite repeated requests to review it. According to Shikli, this lack of transparency wasted significant time and contributed to a deadlock. He further accused Edelstein of ultimately succumbing to populism and public pressure from media studios.

Despite the criticism, Shikli acknowledged Edelstein's experience and capabilities, expressing regret over his departure and noting that Edelstein had contributed positively and could have continued to do so. The interview highlighted ongoing tensions within the Likud party and the political challenges surrounding the draft law debate.
