Two Men Arrested for Threatening Sydney Jews with Fake Gun Near Bondi Beach Attack Site
Two men aged 22 and 25 were arrested in Sydney after allegedly threatening Jewish worshippers with a fake gun as they left the Chabad synagogue in the Double Bay neighborhood. The incident occurred near the site of the deadly Bondi Beach massacre, where 15 people were killed and around 40 injured seven months earlier. Police responded to reports of a person pointing what appeared to be a firearm from a vehicle at the congregants. Upon locating the vehicle nearby, officers detained the suspects and discovered the weapon was a replica. Both men remain in custody, and charges are expected to be filed against them soon. Investigators are also collecting testimonies from witnesses present outside the synagogue during the event. This incident adds to a recent rise in antisemitic threats and violence against the Jewish community in Australia. Meanwhile, a new round of hearings by the royal commission investigating the Bondi Beach attack is scheduled to begin in Sydney in about three weeks.
