Knesset Committee Chair Separates Legislation to Weaken Attorney General's Role
Sammy Rotman, chairman of the Knesset Constitution Committee, has decided to split the legislation aimed at reducing the powers of the Attorney General of Israel. The initial phase will focus on provisions allowing the government to have separate legal representation in the Supreme Court, preventing the Attorney General from arguing on behalf of the government. Additionally, the government will gain the ability to reject legal opinions issued by the Attorney General's office. The legislation will also increase the oversight powers of the Minister of Justice over the Attorney General.
