According to Shams Charania's report on July 4, 2026, the list of potential destinations has been trimmed to six teams: Cleveland Cavaliers, Miami Heat, Golden State Warriors, Philadelphia 76ers, Denver Nuggets, and Minnesota Timberwolves. This list includes some unexpected contenders beyond the initially favored Cleveland, Miami, and Golden State.

LeBron has expressed willingness to sign a minimum contract and is reportedly considering documenting his upcoming season as a series, potentially offsetting financial losses. During his tenure with the Lakers from 2019 to 2026, he averaged 20.9 points, 6.1 rebounds, and 7.2 assists per game, leading the team to the second round of the playoffs before being eliminated by the Oklahoma City Thunder. His playoff scoring average was 23.2 points per game.

LeBron's career includes two stints with Cleveland (2004-2010 and 2014-2018) and a period with Miami Heat between those years.
