New Right-Wing Party 'Right of Zion' Forms to Fill Political Vacuum in Israel
A new right-wing party named "Right of Zion" has been officially registered with Israel's party registrar, sources told Channel 7. The party's formation has been underway for several months, driven by a perceived political vacuum on the right, where many right-wing voters feel unrepresented by existing parties. The initiative is encouraged by bereaved father Rabbi Beni Kalmanzon and aims to establish a Zionist right-wing party that refuses to join any government dependent on non-Zionist Arab or ultra-Orthodox parties.
The party's founders emphasize that while they do not support boycotts, a government reliant on these factions cannot effectively address core issues such as military conscription. They have approached well-known political figures including Yuli Edelstein, Ayelet Shaked, Aliza Bloch, Dudi Ben Zion, and bereaved father Hagai Lover as potential candidates. The party seeks to renew religious Zionism and provide a home for traditional Zionists, criticizing current sectoral representation as inadequate.
Internal polls suggest the party could secure double-digit Knesset seats, competing closely with opposition parties led by figures like Naftali Bennett, Gadi Eizenkot, and Avigdor Lieberman, as well as coalition supporters. The party also plans to appeal to ultra-Orthodox voters, stressing the importance of their participation in Israel's socio-economic efforts. An official launch and candidate announcement are expected within approximately two weeks.
