West Bank Border Communities File Supreme Court Petition Over Tax Benefit Discrimination
The Forum of Border Line Communities plans to submit a petition to Israel's Supreme Court on Sunday, challenging the government's failure to correct tax benefit disparities affecting their areas. Despite commitments made by Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu and cabinet ministers in a government decision to address these inequalities, no action has been taken. The petition highlights that while similar tax benefits have been granted to settlements in Judea and Samaria and to the city of Beersheba, the border communities remain disadvantaged.
The petition argues that these border communities face daily security threats and unstable, dangerous conditions, yet receive tax benefits ranging only from 10% to 14%, compared to a 20% tax discount granted in southern regions. The Forum contends that this disparity constitutes unjust discrimination and calls for equalization of tax incentives to reflect the heightened risks endured by these residents.
