England Prepares for Noisy Mexico Fans and High Altitude Ahead of World Cup Round of 16
Following their dramatic comeback victory over the Democratic Republic of Congo, England faces another tough challenge in the World Cup round of 16 against host nation Mexico on Monday at 3:00 AM local time. The English team is taking extensive precautions to ensure players get adequate rest despite the expected noisy Mexican fans in Mexico City. The England delegation is scheduled to arrive in Mexico City overnight Friday and will stay for two nights before the crucial match. To prevent disturbances, the team is keeping their hotel location secret and players have been provided with earplugs and natural sleep aids to mitigate noise disruptions.
The concern is based on recent incidents where Ecuador, Mexico's previous opponent, filed a complaint with FIFA after Mexican fans used loudspeakers, horns, and motorcycle engines outside their hotel in Mexico City. England would have preferred to arrive only on match day, but FIFA regulations require teams to hold at least one open training session in the host city before the game.
Another significant challenge for England is the high altitude of Mexico City, situated approximately 2,240 meters above sea level, which reduces oxygen levels and can affect players not acclimated to such conditions. Mexico has played all four of its matches so far at high altitudes, including Mexico City and Guadalajara (average 1,566 meters). England coach Thomas Tuchel acknowledged the altitude disadvantage, stating it is impossible to fully adapt in just four days but emphasized the team's readiness to face all obstacles with a determined approach.
