Iran's Revolutionary Guards Kill Five Kurdish Opposition Members Near Piranshahr
Iran's Revolutionary Guards announced on Thursday that they killed five members of the Iranian Kurdish Democratic Party, which is banned in Iran, in a clash near Piranshahr in the West Azerbaijan province. According to the Guards, the five crossed into Iranian territory in a mountainous area near the border and were ambushed. The Norwegian-based Kurdish human rights organization Hengaw reported that the clashes occurred on Wednesday evening. Earlier on the same day, it was reported that Iran's Supreme Leader Mojtaba Khamenei might not appear publicly at the funeral of his father, Ali Khamenei, due to serious security concerns, according to Ayatollah Hakim Elahi, the Supreme Leader's representative in India.
