Egypt Reiterates Offer to Hamas to Transfer Weapons as Part of Gaza Disarmament Talks

Egypt has renewed its proposal to Hamas to hand over its weapons to Cairo instead of dismantling them, according to a report on Thursday evening by Kan News. Senior Egyptian officials are currently engaged in talks with a high-level Hamas delegation in Cairo, aiming to persuade the group to soften its stance on disarmament. An Egyptian source familiar with the discussions told Kan News that Cairo is reviving a previously suggested idea whereby Hamas would deposit its weapons with Egypt as a form of guarantee.

This initiative was first reported by Kan News last year. Due to a stalemate in negotiations with Hamas, Egypt is attempting to pressure the organization into accepting this compromise as an alternative to outright disarmament. The goal is to advance to the second phase of U.S. President Donald Trump's plan to end the conflict in Gaza. However, the Egyptian source indicated that Hamas has shown no willingness to compromise and is instead delaying the process.
