Lebanon’s Vibrant Nightlife and Culture Shine in Beirut and Beyond
A viral video of a lively rooftop party in Beirut has revealed a different image of the Lebanese capital, one that some say has even irritated Hezbollah. Lebanese-Israeli content creator Miriam Younes told "HaOlam HaBoker" that Beirut has become not only the party capital of the Arab world but also one of the most popular nightlife destinations globally. For example, in 2019, CNN ranked Beirut third worldwide for its entertainment scene.
Beyond nightlife, Younes emphasized Lebanon’s diversity, highlighting its offerings of mountain skiing, seaside leisure, and a passionate sports culture, especially football. This enthusiasm turns into a major social event during the World Cup, as seen in videos from the upscale SKOYA bar-restaurant in Beirut. The support for foreign teams is notable, with Younes explaining that "the Arab world loves Brazil, Argentina, and all the famous players." The current tournament features a record eight Arab countries, further fueling the celebration.
Lebanese nightlife culture is rooted in a love for extravagance and exceptional experiences. A prime example is a luxury restaurant in the coastal town of Jounieh, where diners enjoy spectacular aerial acrobatics. Younes said the key to understanding this scene is that "Lebanese people really love everything that is extra, wow, show, grandiose."
This culture extends beyond Lebanon’s borders and influences the entire region. Younes noted that Lebanese entrepreneurs are often behind the glamorous entertainment scenes in the Gulf, saying, "It’s the Lebanese who brought this there. Those who truly run the famous restaurants and major cultural events in Abu Dhabi and Dubai are Lebanese owners."
